Laura Meseguer

Laura Meseguer (b. 1968) is a type and brand designer based in Barcelona who, influenced by her family’s background in printing, has loved letters since childhood. She earned a graphic design degree from Llotja, Barcelona, and became a professional type designer and teacher after completing her Master’s at KABK’s Type and Media programme in The Netherlands.

Laura is a proud co-founder of Type-Ø-Tones, one of the first digital type foundries in Spain, where her animating principles of rigor and joy overflow. She has now produced custom lettering and type for brands, cultural institutions, and publishers for more than 20 years. Her typefaces have garnered many awards, and in 2018 she received the Premio Gràffica in recognition of her career “for paving a path in the typographic world in Spain.”

Laura has been a typography and type design teacher for more than 15 years, and since 2019 she has been the academic director of Tipo-g, an educational project that brings together Barcelona’s type design scene with future professionals. Laura served as an ATypI board member from 2017–2023, has been part of Alphabettes.org since its beginning, and continues to give lectures and lead workshops around the world.

Craftsmanship and collaboration are the hallmarks of Laura’s practice, as she imbues traditional techniques with an experimental twist.

Laura designed Playpen Sans, in collaboration with Veronika Burian and José Scaglione, and it was released with TypeTogether in 2023.
