The Tale of Genji

April 2020

Edita in use in the catalogue of the 2019 exhibition “The Tale of Genji” held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Edita, the text typeface designed by Pilar Cano, has been used in the catalogue for the exhibition “The tale of Genji” — Japan’s most celebrated work of literature. The exhibition was one of the main 2019 exhibits at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met).

The catalogue, The Tale of Genji: A Japanese Classic Illuminated, was designed by Christopher Kuntze using Edita for main catalogue texts, with the exception of calls, titles, and page numbering. Edita’s soft, warm, expressive, and fluid nature balances perfectly against the sharp and stark headlines set in Albertus Nova.

A PDF of the catalogue can be downloaded from The Met website.
