TypeCon font writing workshop with Joshua Farmer

June 2018

TypeCon is back in Portland August 1–5. It promises to be an incredible event with three keynote speakers as well as the Education Forum, Type Quiz, Type Crit, and a host of workshops for those wanting an immersive experience.

TypeTogether’s writer/editor, Joshua Farmer will deliver a full-day workshop during  TypeCon on how to write typeface descriptions. The discussion-plus-production workshop will show you how to market your incredible work with words, all while covering a wide range of subjects and allowing time to produce and refine your own descriptions.

The workshop will help you with the what, why, and how of describing the font you’ve just made to engage a font-buying audience. It will explore everything from defining the overarching concept that will guide your descriptive writing, to tapping into emotional power, and refining the details. And of course the necessary stuff will be included, like good grammar and working within restrictions. It is recommended but not required to bring a font design you want to write about and you could walk out of this workshop a market-ready happy camper!

The workshop will be held at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, 9–4:30 pm. Register here.
