Cieszyn, Poland

February 2010

Veronika and José were invited to give a one-week long type workshop at the Slaski Zamek Sztuki i Przedsiebiorczosci in Polish Cieszyn, a very dynamic cultural institution that organises international workshops, exhibitions, seminars and more.

A dynamic group of students

The advanced type design workshop explored methods on how to develop custom typefaces for a specific application and client. Each of the 12 participants laid out a brief and initial concept for their custom typeface, which was then developed over the next few days. In some cases the actual logotype of the selected client was also improved.
It was a very dynamic and keen group, mostly young Polish designers with some type experience. The resulting typefaces were, given the mostly basic font-development knowledge of the students, rather cleanly drawn and diverse in idea. The castle also organised to have the results shown to the public in a small exhibition that was linked to TypeTogether's traveling exhibtion, ‘Designing typefaces, from concept to reader’.
