Bely

From French designer Roxane Gataud comes Bely, the newest release by TypeTogether. Bely is a high-class throwback containing four text weights which were built upon classical proportions to capitalise on reading familiarity. Bely Text features balanced capitals and a play between large, triangular serifs at the top and thick, bracketed, rectangular serifs at the bottom. The family is extended by a radical, expressive French-style display weight which pushes the rules of the text weights to their logical extreme. Bely Display’s monstrous and angled contrast exploits the features which make an impression at larger sizes: a vocal attitude and an undeniable je ne sais quoi. Check out this fearless family.

Puerto Rico’s WIPR TV

TypeTogether and Design Sessions studio collaborated to develop the logotype and associated type family for Puerto Rico’s government-owned TV channel and radio stations, WIPR. With great consideration for the equity carried over from the TV station’s previous branding, the resulting unicase type family was built with an eye toward creating an accurate and modern voice. The WIPR custom typeface is more polished and balanced overall, with more logical curves and refinement. It also has several alternative lettershapes to allow for a more tailored approach in the creation of sub-brands.

Veronika Burian at 2016 TDC Judges Night

As part of the 2016 TDC jury, Veronika Burian spoke at TDC New York on “Curating a Type Library” — how to create and sell an interesting, balanced, and successful offering of type families as an independent foundry. Karen Welman, founding partner and CCO of Pearlfisher London, is also part of the jury and delivered a talk as well.

Soleil in Austrian Salzburger Nachrichten

The weekly magazine Wochenende, a weekend supplement of Austrian daily newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten, is using Wolfgang Homola’s Soleil in headlines, subheadings, captions, and some short texts. With stories spanning the tragic to the heroic, Soleil’s tranquil and refreshing look are a great way to carry the news of the week.

Tokyo TDC Annual Book, Vol. 27

Four of TypeTogether’s recent releases have been selected for the Tokyo TDC annual book: Marco by Toshi Omagari; Lipa Agate by Ermin Međedović; Bree Serif by José Scaglione and Veronika Burian; and of course Alverata by Dr Gerard Unger, which won gold for Type Design. The book’s release date has not yet been set, but we’ll update you when it has.
