NEW RELEASE
Maiola supports polytonic Greek

Veronika Burian's multi-award winning type family Maiola has grown even bigger. Its Pan-European OpenType Pro version now supports, in addition to Cyrillic and Latin A, full polytonic Greek. The calligraphic details of Maiola collaborate gracefully with each of the three scripts and generate a sense of consistent personality that creates a welcoming tension on the page. The polytonic extension was done by Greek specialist Irene Vlachou.

COMPETITIONS
Eskapade to be featured in CommArts

Alisa Nowak's brilliant opera prima, Eskapade, was honored by Communication Arts to appear in their Typography Annual 2013. This challenging project is the result of research confronting Roman and German blackletter forms, mainly fraktur letters. In her Eskapade, Alisa successfully adapted these broken forms for a contemporary use instead of creating a faithful revival of a historical typeface.

ARTICLES
Codex 2

The long-awaited second issue of the Codex magazine, published by John Boardley, features an extensive article on the work of Czech type designer Oldřich Menhart. Paul Shaw collaborated with Veronika, whose dissertation for her MA at the University of Reading, served as one of the main sources of information. The article takes a new look, more from a calligraphic point of view, and includes a selection of commented revivals of Menhart's typefaces. It sheds yet another light on his remarkable work. The Codex website uses our Karmina Sans as main body text.
