Fyens Stiftstidende

Ronnia lends its personality that performs admirably in headlines but is diffident enough for continuous small text to a new tabloid section of a Danish regional newspaper.

The editorial design firm Palmer Watson Ltd., with which we have collaborated in the past on the Irish Times, and their client, the Danish newspaper Fyens Stiftstidende, selected the Ronnia font family for the launch of a major new tabloid section that covers the city of Odense and the Fyn region. A whole typographic overhaul of the full newspaper was also part of the project.

The particularities of the Danish language and its letter combinations together with the desired tight spacing, required a tailored solution for the letters ‘y’ and ‘j’ that appear frequently after ‘g’ and ‘j’. The original design has a rather long outstroke tail which had to be shortened as not to clash with the other letters. As a result Ronnia is used in various weights mainly in titles, some text and tables.
