Veronika and José were invited to give a 1,5 day workshop and a presentation at the ISType conference in Istanbul this June. The conference was brought to life last year for the first time by Onur Yazıcıgil (Sabancı University) and Alessandro Segalini (Izmir University of Economics) as way of encouraging and supporting contemporary typographic development in Turkey.
The workshop "Introduction into digital typeface design" covers many areas of the typeface design process and aims to jumpstart both beginners and amateurs into alphabet-drawing. The first day, students did some sketching exercises, experimenting with three parameters and developed their own design. On the second day, followed by a basic introduction to Fontlab, the students started to digitise their design and expand the character set.
